Airbnb Turnover Cleaning: A Checklist for Hosts
An Airbnb turnover is a reset, not a tidy. Every surface a guest touched gets cleaned. Linens get changed and consumables get restocked. The unit gets staged to match the listing photos.
Cleanliness is a scored category on most booking platforms. One low rating there drags your overall score and your placement.
Turnovers also run on a clock. Checkout at 11, check-in at 3, one window in between.
Kitchen
- Dishes washed and put away, dishwasher emptied
- Inside the microwave
- Inside the refrigerator, all guest food removed
- Freezer checked and cleared
- Stovetop, oven exterior, and range hood
- Coffee maker cleaned, filter and grounds replaced
- Counters, backsplash, and sink
- Cabinet fronts wiped
- Trash emptied, liner replaced
- Floor mopped
Check the cabinets for items guests left behind. Also check for missing dishes and glassware.
Bathrooms
- Toilet inside, outside, base, and behind
- Shower and tub scrubbed, soap scum removed
- Glass and door tracks
- Sink, counter, and faucet
- Mirror streak-free
- Hair removed from drains and floor
- Fresh towels staged and folded
- Toilet paper stocked, plus a visible spare
- Soap, shampoo, and conditioner refilled
- Trash emptied
- Floor mopped
Hair is the single most reported complaint in reviews. Check the drain, the floor edges, and the shower corners.

Bedrooms
- All bed linens stripped and replaced
- Mattress protector checked for stains
- Pillows checked, protectors replaced
- Beds made to listing-photo standard
- Under the bed checked for left items
- Nightstands, dressers, and lamps wiped
- Closet checked, hangers straightened
- Mirrors wiped
- Floor vacuumed
Keep two full linen sets per bed. One goes on, one gets washed. That is how you hit a same-day turnaround.
Living areas
- Sofa cushions removed and vacuumed underneath
- Upholstery vacuumed
- Remote controls wiped, batteries checked
- TV screen dusted
- Coffee and side tables
- Light switches, door handles, and railings
- Windows and sills
- Floor vacuumed and mopped
High-touch points
Guests notice these, and reviewers mention them.
- Door handles and locks
- Light switches
- Remote controls
- Thermostat
- Faucet handles
- Refrigerator handle
- Microwave keypad
- Stair railings
- Keypad or lockbox
Restock list
Build a par level for each item and check it every turnover.
- Toilet paper, two rolls minimum per bathroom
- Paper towels
- Hand soap and dish soap
- Shampoo, conditioner, body wash
- Dishwasher and laundry detergent
- Trash bags, sized to each can
- Coffee, filters, tea, sugar
- Sponges and dish cloths
- Salt and pepper
Final staging pass
Walk the unit as a guest would. Front door, then room by room.
- Beds match the listing photos
- Towels folded the same way each time
- Curtains and blinds set the same way
- Thermostat at your standard setting
- Lights off, or entry light on for evening arrivals
- House manual visible
- No cleaning supplies left in sight
- No visible cords or clutter
Photograph the finished unit. A dated photo set protects you in a damage claim.
Damage and inventory check
Every turnover is also an inspection.
- Note stains on linens, towels, and mattresses
- Check for chips, scratches, and burns
- Count towels, linens, dishes, and glasses
- Test lamps and the TV remote
- Report anything missing the same day
Platform claim windows are short. Same-day reporting matters.
